ThunderBirthDay 0.5.0 released [updated]

Yesterday, I submitted a new version of ThunderBirthDay to http://addons.mozilla.org, as promised recently. Its only change is that it now supports Thunderbird 5. It now usually takes a couple of weeks to get the new version approved, but you can already download it here:

Update:

Mozilla has just approved ThunderBirthDay 0.5.0. It is now downloadable via its official listing on addons.mozilla.org or via Thunderbird's extension manager, and will be updated automatically if it was already installed.

Hallo Ingo,

ich habe auf AMO gelesen, dass einige Benutzer gerne auch Geburtstage ohne Jahr angezeigt bekommen würden. Da es mir ebenfalls so ging, habe ich das mal angepasst.

Den Patch zur Erinnerungsanzeige habe ich Dir schon einmal per Mail zukommen lassen. Lief bis heute hier ohne Probleme. Falls Du daran auch noch Interesse haben solltest, so melde Dich doch einfach nochmal.

Hi!

ThunderBirthDay is already compatible. Also, Mozilla has automatically marked it as compatible on their website, so updates should be installed automatically. Installing ThunderBirthDay on Thunderbird 7 should work, when an internet connection is available. Please let me know if that's not the case.

Already compatible

Hi!

Furtunately, ThunderBirthDay IS compatible with Thunderbird 7. As the post sais, you need to be connected to the internet for Thunderbird to be able to look this up online. Just install ThunderBirthDay from within the catalogue within Thunderbird, it should then work.

Besides, a new version of ThunderBirthDay is being reviewed by Mozilla at the moment. This version contains the updated compatibibility information and works without internet access. You can already download it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/thunderbirthday/versions/

Konfigurationsanfrage "speichern am Netzwerk"

Hallo Ingo,

erstmal recht herzlichen Dank für das tolle AddOn.

Frage: Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, daß man die Konfiguration anstatt "Am lokalen Computer" auch am "Netzwerk" (Remote Computer) machen kann?

Grund: da ich auch andere Kalender nutze (die ich auf einen Server ablege) und dadurch mich mit mehreren Computer abgleiche, wäre dies für mich sehr hilfreich.

Leider nicht möglich

Hallo Markus!

Leider geht das nicht so einfach. ThunderBirthDay speichert nämlich überhaupt keine Daten, die Geburtstage werden stattdessen beim Start (und alle 20 Minuten) aus dem Adressbuch gelesen und daraus "virtuelle" Kalendereinträge erzeugt. Daher ist der Kalender auch schreibgeschützt, die Einträge "gibt es nämlich gar nicht". Man kann sie so auch nicht im Netzwerk speichern...

SeaMonkey 2.3.x

Hi Ingo,
Thunderbirthday 0.5.0 läuft bei mir unter SM2.3.3 und Lightning 1.0b5. Vielleicht könntest Du auch SM in Deine install.rdf aufnehmen, damit nicht solche Laien wie ich darin rumschreiben müssen.

Hallo Steffen,

danke für den Hinweis. Ich dachte, das funktioniert schon. Zwar steht es nicht in der install.rdf, allerdings habe ich das bei addons.mozilla.org so eingetragen. Zumindest der Thunderbird holt sich diese Information aus dem Internet, und installiert ein XPI, auch wenn er es laut install.rdf gar nicht dürfte (mehr info hier). Geht das beim Seamonkey nicht?

SeaMonkey 2.x

Hi Ingo,
habe gerade bei Mozilla.org nachgesehen, dort steht kompatibel bis SM2.2.x und TB6.x. Vielleicht sind die Jungs dort überlastet mit dem Anstieg der aktuellen Versionsnummern.

Hi Ingo,
ich bin leider nicht der Insider bezüglich Add-Ons, ich musste mich nur wegen der derzeit herrschenden Versionitis schon öfters mit den install.rdfs rumschlagen und habe das auch bei der aktuellen ThunderBirthday 0.5.0 getan.
Nach der Meldung ...nicht kompatibel mit SM2.3.x habe ich einen Eintrag usw. eingefügt, probiert und funktionierte.

P.S.: Ich lade mir immer die xpis lokal auf meinen Rechner und installiere von hier aus.

Vielen Dank!

Vielen Dank Ingo. Thunderbirthday ist in meinen Augen ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil von Thunderbird geworden. Umso übler war es dann als es mit Thunderbird 5 nicht mehr funktioniert hat.

Thanks for the new version,
however when i want to upgrade thunderbird it give a warning that iet's not compatible with thunderbirthday .
(dutch release)

Have you installed the new version of ThunderBirthDay manually? You will have to do this, as the new version is not yet approved by Mozilla and will not be updated automatically...

Already compatible

As usual and as with most other add-ons, ThunderBirthDay is automatically compatible with new versions of Thunderbird, without any add-on updates. Just make sure that you're connected to the internet while installing/updating the add-on, and Thunderbird will retrieved updated compatibility information from the internet.
